Its a WAR out there.

Everyone’s putting in efforts to get seen. I know you are as well.

But what if those aren’t enough?

The 3 tips I share in this blog might not make you the “best” out there (yet). But I can guarantee they’ll help you stand out among your competitors.

Because here’s the inevitable truth — Not many spend time following these tips.

So buckle up and let's dive into these without further ado.

1. Find your niche

A niche gives your writing clarity & purpose. Without it, you’ll be confused and scattered.

Your niche is your identity — pretty common and obvious. In fact, they are several others like you, with the same identity. So how do you stand out and make someone consider you as the “Niche Supreme”?

Here’s how (a step-by-step guide) :

  • Create a Swipe File to store everything you come across as resources or inspiration (I use Notion)
  • Hit Google & YouTube to learn everything you can about your niche
  • Schedule 1–2 hrs/day for learning
  • Take notes while learning
  • Use Social Media to get inspired by Creators in your niche

Lastly, look out for the potential your niche possesses in the current world scenario. This isn’t something you can make happen overnight — enjoy the process of choosing your niche as it’s about to stay with you long-term.

Note — I’ve shared my method of choosing your niche. But there are plenty out there, taught by experts and experienced professionals — feel free to use the one that quicker and effective for you.

2. Use Social Media

You’re planning to make it big in the writing industry.

But its challenging to thrive out there unless people actually know you.

While relying on freelancing platforms is effective, it isn’t a long-term strategy to land clients, endlessly.

You need a concrete outlet for getting your skills in front of the right people.

And Social Media can help with navigating it — Not only can you start free, you can even turn it into an entire business for yourself just by showing up regularly and creating content smartly.

Here are the 3 major social media platforms along with what I feel best suits a Writer’s purpose :

  • Instagram — best for inspiration
  • LinkedIn — best for bagging clients and networking
  • Twitter — best for inspiration, resources and writing prompts/ideas

Why shift to Social Media? Here’s what I think are the major ones :

  • Gives you exposure and visibility — helps build your online presence
  • Can directly approach and pitch your services upfront (excludes spamming)
  • Helps find like-minded writers who can help drive new opportunities (referral, recommendations, etc.)

So pick your social media platform from the list above. But make sure you start with one, master it and move on to the next.

3. Invest in your Craft

One word — upskill

You’ll be left behind if you fail to skill-grind regularly.

Luckily, in this age of the mighty internet, you’ll get all of the resources at your fingertips — within seconds.

However, this is the part where I first struggled with.

The OVERWHELM….

The sheer amount of resources available online, within your grasp, can put you in a dilemma.

From blogs, videos, to workshops and online courses — you can have access to it all, either free or paid.

Here’s a free resource that I revisit every often to brush up my skills :

Freelance Writing Hub

You’ll find almost every resource you’ll ever need to excel as a Writer online. I can guarantee it.

The best part — its 100% Free.

Apart from this resource, you can check out Nicolas Cole and Dickie Bush if you’re on Twitter — they’re the living legends of Digital Writing today.

I’ll let you decide which course, workshop or book you’d like to pick to master your craft.

Wrapping Up

Your dream client is has a lot of choice when it comes to choosing a Writer that fits and aligns with their business goals — make sure you become the only choice for them.

The 3 tips I covered in this blog will keep you ahead of your game as well as your competitors — making it easy for you to run a thriving writing career.

Because, I’ll say it again — Your competition is lazy. They don’t want to spend time behind this. And this gives you the perfect opportunity to rise and shine.

If you had a choice, what would you add to this list of tips? And which one would you first get started with?

Either way, feel free to drop your opinion in the comments.
